Some early information on the previously mentioned new Yu-Gi-Oh series has been leaked! Titled "Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal," the series will focus on a new duelist named Yuma Tsukumo. As I expected, the new series will launch this April. Besides the anime, a manga adaptation will also be released. Judging by the little bit we can see of the series, Zexal will be abandoning the idea of older characters in 5D's & instead focus on younger characters.
Original Yu-Gi-Oh creator Kazuki Takahashi & his Studio Dice will once again create the story & characters. The anime episodes will be directed by Satoshi Kuwahara (Black Jack 21, Tezuka Osamu ga Kieta, Astro Boy: Shinsen-gumi), scripts by Shin Yoshida (Yu-Gi-Oh DM, Yu-Gi-Oh GX, Yu-Gi-Oh 3D), character design adaptations by Hirotoshi Takaya (Chouja Reideen, Eyeshield 21, Kekkaishi), & duels will once again be supervised by Masahiro Hikokubo, who's done the same for every single past YGO series & movie.
Personally I wonder how the title is supposed to be pronounced by English speakers. The katakana indicates that the Japanese pronunciation for Zexal is "Ze-a-ru." So is "Zay-al" correct? Or how about simply "Zeal"? Either way, it's apparent that the X is supposed to be silent. Anyway, more information as it becomes available!

As far as anyone can tell, Yuma's parents used to be explorers/archeologists, but they ended up dying in one of their adventures. Yuma was left a necklace as a keepsake from his mother. Also, there is a need summoning mechanic around overlapping two monsters of the same level to form a new one, though the others don't go to the graveyard-- the card is placed on top of them. Apparently current translations state that this is Exceeds Summon.
This is just what I've gotten from the chat I'm in.
I'll end up linking things as well once higher quality scans crop up, so please be patient.
V-JUMP links: 1, 2 3.
Manga: Cover, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
Guess this means we'll have three different ongoing Yu-Gi-Oh manga series at once now? GX, 5D's, & now Zexal. Pretty cool that they're doing that, actually.
GX manga's been cool and all but given it's monthly serialization I doubt it'll last past this main arc that it's had going on with American Academy.
It might as well be declaring World War on Konami and NAS.
