Your friendly neighborhood Nebs here to remind you that tomorrow morning on the CW4Kids, "Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's" makes its English dub premiere on American TV at 10:30am. Having only premiered this past April in Japan, not to mention that 4Kids Entertainment licensed it even before it actually began, that makes it one of the fastest dubs in anime history. They haven't even gotten to episode 26 in Japan yet.
The CW aired a preview for their new Saturday morning lineup today, & obviously 5D's was one of the highlights. The above video shows some of what was previewed, & anyone who's the least bit familiar with the Japanese version should notice a very odd edit in the clip. Not only was it a change that wasn't included in the original Japanese version, but a change that has never existed in any previous dub of Yu-Gi-Oh. It seems that a more thorough explanation of what some cards do will occasionally interrupt the action & be explained to the audience by some computer voice. A little bit of an odd add-in, I'm sure you'll agree.
The discussion of voting for the new 5D's theme song was also brought up in the sneak peak. They announced what the top two choices were- "Hyper Drive" & "We Ride to Survive"- but wouldn't say which one of them got the most votes. Who knows, maybe they're still even taking votes. Guess we'll find out tomorrow morning what got the most votes.
Finally, the 5D's dub site on the 4KidsTV website has been updated with some actual content. Aside from a 5D's blog called D-Blog (there really isn't much content there), a character page was added with info on the five major characters. Despite earlier reports/guesses saying that all dub characters would be keeping their Japanese names this time around, that is no longer the case. However, the name changes are MUCH closer to their Japanese names than they ever were in GX. Yusei is still Yusei & Jack is still Jack, so at least that stays the same. The others, however, are a bit different.
EDIT: I was mistaken about the twins. Luca is actually Luna, & Lua is now Luka. How messed up is that? I'm hoping it's a mistake on the website, but after thinking about it I don't think they'd want to name a boy "Luna." The switching is completely stupid.
